British GP Future Still Uncertain

Bernie Ecclestone has put a dampener on hopes for the future of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone by saying he is not prepared to negotiate with the owners about a new deal for 2010.

Ecclestone wants fundamental changes made to the Northamtonshire track and has insisted that he is not open to negotiation about the extension of the current contract with the BRDC because it is not ‘responsible’.

“I want to deal with a promoter, rather than the BRDC,” Ecclestone stated. “It is too difficult with the BRDC because you get no guarantees with them. Somebody has to take over the commercial side and be responsible.”

Ecclestone has also reiterated that he is not prepared to think about a deal until the circuit renovations. The BRDC have claimed that they have plans in place which are well advanced, however Ecclestone has yet to be convinced. “I’ve heard it all before,” he said.
