China’s F1 boss fired

The head of China’s Formula 1 race track has been fired along with two others due to part of a investigation into corruption allegations. Yu Zhifei, general manager of the Shanghai International Circuit, had been accused of using public money ear-marked for the circuit to buy himself a house. He has also been accused of accepting bribes.

All the sackings were related to a inquiry which stemmed from misuse of Shanghai’s pension fund, a scandal which saw the city’s Communist Party secretary, Chen Liangyu, fired last September.

Yu had helped to manage and develop Shanghai’s new F1 track, as well as helping to organise the Grand Prix itself. Yu has already been expelled from the Communist Party and is facing criminal charges. Chen Chaoxian, the former district chief, as well as Ling Baoheng, the former director of the asset supervision board, have also both been fired.
