McLaren to appeal Brazil stewards decision
Filed Under: F1 News
McLaren have notified the FIA of their intention to appeal the race stewards’ decision not to penalise BMW-Sauber and Williams over fuel temperature irregularities.
Rosberg, Heidfeld and Kubica were all found to have had fuel stored at a lower temperature than is permitted by F1 rules. Race stewards investigated the issue and decided that no action should be taken against the teams, leaving Raikkonen as championship winner. Had the three drivers been disqualified, Lewis Hamilton would have been crowned world champion.
McLaren have chosen to appeal the decision in the hope that their driver can become the 2007 world champion. Their decision to appeal now leaves the drivers’ championship in confusion.
The International Court of Appeal have yet to accept the appeal request – if they do accept the request, they will set out a date for the hearing in the near future.
Despite being a McLaren driver, Fernando Alonso is hoping that his team do not win the appeal as he claims that it would be bad for the sport. “It would be a joke – and we have had too many already,” he explained. “If something like that happened, it would end up burying the sport.”

Speaking as a McLaren fan I believe that Dennis/Whitmarsh should drop this appeal - the Championship should be won on the track, not in the Courts, and as good as Hamilton/Alonso were this year, in the end Raikkonen won fair and square. I believe it has been a great season for the fans (whoever they support) and I for one am looking forward to next March when Team McLaren (whichever drivers that will be!) will hopefully give a strong challenge to Ferrari again.

i write in respone to, amongst others, the comments made by flexkitten about winning fairly…..the point is that if the fuel issue is upheld by the appeal enquiry it will demonstrate that obviously kimi did not win fairly since the ranking of other drivers in the brazilian grand prix would probably have been adversely affected if the trio accused of using over-cooled fuel had benefitted by its use in any way at all…..also, it will serve us well to remember how ferari have always been quick to call and back enquiries which help their own position……………all is fair in love and war and above all,in F1.
at the moment i cant see anything being fair in F1….this is a very serious, dangerous and very technical sport; hence the regulations….these regulations are there to help all have the same opportunity for the conduct of fair play….and fuel temperatures also play a crucial role…
finally….alonso wants his team to lose the appeal!!! that’s because he has been thoroughly beaten morally, ethically, competitively, and mathematically….if alonso were to benefit from this appeal then we would be seeing tantrums now demanding a decision in his favour……I want you to know that i am a ferrari fan…only speaking out in the interests of fair play.

Yes Oscar, I take completely your point about fair and square and I know for sure if the boot had been on the other foot the Ferrari bosses would be the first one clammering all over the Stewards and the FIA - but as I said before, and indeed as Lewis Hamilton has said as well (see his comments on another article on this site), he believes the championship should be won on the track!
I also believe that everything about Alonso - his body language, what he’s said - points to him leaving McLaren soon but who knows where he will end up. Renault being the obvious choice…..as I said before……roll on March next year!!!

As much as I love the McLaren team (it’s been my one and only favourite team since I followed the sport 17 yrs ago), it would be very cruel to take the title away from Kimi Raikkonen.
