Pod damage may have slowed Alonso

Fernando Alonso has claimed that his loss of form at the weekend’s race in Sakhir could have been down to some damage to his car. On Friday evening, a lighting pod fell from the ceiling, hitting Alonso’s car. The damage meant that the front wing of the MP4-22 had to be replaced.

At the time, McLaren played down the incident, however Alonso is now suggesting that the incident may have been a large factor in the handling problems he had in both the qualifying and race at Bahrain.

“Maybe a mistake was made while re-assembling the car after the accident,” Alonso mused. “The fact is the car had strange behaviour from then on. It was as though there was no difference in grip between the hard or medium tyres. If I had raced on intermediates, it would have been the same.”

Of course, had the pod not fallen down, he’d have found something else to blame… ;)

I wonder how much Hamilton is messing with his mind, this weekend I believe we saw the start of the great ‘friendship’ between these two fall apart. Alonso, given his reaction during press conferences and interviews, is sick of hearing about his team-mate. He was meant to be the golden boy at McLaren, not Hamilton, the young upstart…!!

Stop with the excuses…Hamilton is the real deal and Alonso will need to cope with the competition. Unfortunately, ego in this industry becomes larger with a couple of world championships under your belt. Get to racing and quit complaining!!!!
