Alonso’s hefty wage bill
According to recent rumours, if Fernando Alonso chooses to stay at Renault, he will become one of Formula 1’s highest paid drivers.
It is believed that Alonso will make around $46 million a year if he chooses not to exercise a clause in his contract which allows him to leave the Renault F1 team before the 2009 season. It is understood that Alonso’s manager negotiated the figure of $46 million because it was $1 million more than the amount Kimi Raikkonen gets paid, although there are other rumours that the Finnish driver earns over $50 million a year.
