Coloured Tyres for 2009?

Bridgestone are working on coloured rubber to allow easy identification of slick tyres which are making a comeback toF1 next season.

At the moment, tyres are painted with a white line inside a groove on the tyre to distinguish between the two types of tyres. However, with the return of slick tyres next season, this method will not be available.

Speaking to Swiss magazine Motorsport Aktuell, a spokesperson for Bridgestone said, “We are working on this. It is clear that for the benefit of spectators and professionals, the compounds next year will be more distinguishable.”

At this point, it is unclear whether Bridgestone are working towards a Champ Car style tyre where the side walls are coloured, or whether all the rubber in the tyre will be coloured.
