De la Rosa elected new GPDA chairman
According to Autosport, McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa has been voted in as the new chairman of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA). De la Rosa takes over from Ralf Schumacher who left F1 at the end of the 2007 season.
The vote was held after Friday’s meeting at Albert Park and the result was unanimous. The result comes as little surprise as de la Rosa was the preferred candidate for both GPDA directors Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso.
De la Rosa has stated that he is not planning to make any changes to the philosophy of the GPDA, and he wanted to concentrate on working with the FIA on safety issues. However, he is hoping to bring some of the younger drivers such as Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen on-board as he feels that all drivers should be aware of the safety issues in the sport.

Dear Mr. Pedro de la Rosa,
I have just now seen on a web site comments that F1 drivers are planning “a strike” for the forthcoming Silverstone Grand Prix.
I have been following F1 for nearly 30 years now and never have I heard such stupid idea before. I have bought my tickets almost every year to go to Siverstone, and I have never been on “strike”.
I do not want to start further arguments in this matter but what I can tell you is that if your planned “strike” takes place in two weeks time, I will never ever again have anything to do with F1.
I know very well that my “vote” in the matter is not important to you or your fellow drivers but you can be assured that there will be loads of people who will join me. Once you start loosing your fans then your sport has no future.
I know you will not answere this e-mail but at least I have said my opinion.
Best regards
U, Makinen
