Jackie Stewart’s brother passes away
James Stewart, better known as Jimmy, former F1 driver and brother of three-times World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart, has died aged 76.
Stewart drove just one Grand Prix in a Cooper T20 with Ecurie Ecosse at Silverstone in 1953, but retired after crashing at Copse. He was credited with bringing Jackie into F1 - vouching for the young Scot when Ken Tyrrell was on the lookout for talent to join his Formula 3 team in 1964. In Jackie’s Autobiography, he said that he ‘owe him [Jimmy] almost everything’.
After two serious accidents – at Le Mans and the Nurburgring - Stewart retired from motor sport in 1955 aged just 24.
