New F1 track in Russia
Filed Under: F1 News, Race Tracks
Hans Geist, the former manager of the Austrian and Bahrain Formula 1 circuits has been appointed to oversea the construction of a new F1-standard venue near Moscow in Russia.
The site is in Volokolamsk, 80 km west of Moscow, and will be designed by renowned F1 circuit designed Hermann Tilke. However there is no guarantee that once built, the circuit will host an F1 Grand Prix. Bernie Ecclestone is said to keen to bring Formula One to Russia and was rumoured to have visited St. Petersburg earlier this year in order to discuss future plans.

Well, you say there’s no guarantees this new track will hold an F1 race. Maybe not straight away but there’s only one reason why the track is being built and that is to hold a race in the future. F1 bosses know there’s a lot of money in Russia these days and where there’s money to be made, F1 will follow, that’s for sure.
