A diminished grid for 2010?

Some of the biggest names in Formula One may not be on the grid next season if new rules such as the voluntary budget capping goes ahead. Red Bull Racing has reportedly followed Toyota s lead and declared they will not enter next season s racing under current proposed regulations.

“Conditions at the moment are not so, that we would enter a team for next year,” Dietrich Mateschitz explained to Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten.

Ferrari and BMW Sauber have also made it clear they are not too happy at the rules however have yet to make any public statements over the issue. All teams have until May 29th to submit their entries for 2010 s championship.

It also appears that some of the drivers are not too keen on the new rules. In an interview with the BBC, Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen was asked about Ferrari s future in the sport with budget caps in place. “There s a lot of question marks over those,” he replied. “I m not the guy to answer those.”

When questioned over his thoughts on the budget caps, Kimi replied, “I think this is not Formula 1 any more. So I mean that s why there is a question mark.

“But we will see what happens. But like I said I will go and finish my contract and then see what is happening.”
