Ferrari unveil new F60 for 2009

514107Ferrari today revealed their 2009 challenger at their Mugello base. The Italian team, constructors’ champions in 2008, are the first team to launch their 2009 car, which breaks with recent tradition to be called the F60.

The car’s launch had been moved to Mugello after poor weather conditions precluded its appearance at the Fiorano test track. Drivers Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa, Luca Badoer and Marc Gene were in attendance, with bosses Stefano Domenicali and Luca di Montezemolo. Massa is to give the car its first run in anger later today at the Mugello track.

The car is more aesthetically pleasing than previous 08/09 hybrids have suggested. Due to new aerodynamic regulations to increase overtaking, the car has lost many of the unsightly appendages that have characterised F1 cars in recent years. Similarly, the new rear and front wing arrangements are striking, and the curved nose and front wing slats recall the famous ‘sharknose’ Ferraris of the 1950s.
