The Shell Eco-Marathon

Shell, the technical partners of the Ferrari F1 team, are hosting this year’s 24th annual Eco-marathon. Driving 3,000 km on a single litre of fuel seems unlikely however this is the standard that entrants to the Shell Eco-Marathon project are trying to match.

The record for a combustion engine entry was set in 2004 when a single litre of fuel lasted 3,410 km. If today’s Formula One cars were as economical of many of the Eco-marathon entrants, one gallon of fuel could see them competing in three seasons of F1 without the need for refuelling!
