Ecclestone ponders rule changes

Bernie EcclestoneBernie Ecclestone is contemplating shaking up the way in which Formula One rules are made after the dull season opener in Bahrain.

Prior to the race, many had hoped that the new raft of rules brought in for the 2010 season would see a more exciting race, however the Bahrain event failed to live up to expectations with almost no overtaking on track.

Indianapolis plays down F1 return possibility

After Bernie Ecclestone hinted in Bahrain that a return to Indianapolis might be on the cards in the near future, Indianapolis Speedway are playing down the claims.

A spokesman for the circuit commented to the Indianapolis Business Journal, “We continue to have dialogue with Formula 1 and we’ve long maintained we are interested in hosting their events.”

Whitmarsh: Tyre rules or compounds should change

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has spoken out about the marked difference between the different tyre compounds and he believes that there should be two mandatory pit stops per race to help spice up the races. The Bahrain GP was one of the most highly anticipated season openers for many years – thanks partly to the larger F1 field, the refuelling ban and the return of Michael Schumacher – however the race failed to sparkle, leading the Sun newspaper to sum the race up as the ‘Bore-rain GP.’

Bob Bell criticises FIA’s decision over McLaren

Renault technical director Bob Bell is not happy about the FIA’s decision to allow McLaren’s new rear wing.

McLaren new design gives the driver the option to close a vent in the cockpit which helps to stall the rear wing and therefore create less drag. The result is a higher top speed on the straights whilst retaining maximum downforce through the corners.

F1 film given the green light

Preparations are underway for an official Formula One film to be made after a deal was struck with F1’s commerical chief Bernie Ecclestone.

It is understood that the F1 film will be an action documentary and will focus on the time period between 1968, when Jim Clark died at Hockenheim, and 1982, when Gilles Villeneuve had his fatal accident at Zolder. It is hoped that the film will be released early next year.

Bahrain GP 2010: Sutil tops first free practice session

The first free practice looks to have surprised many with Adrian Sutil topping the first session in Bahrain for Force India with a time of 1:56.563. However Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso wasn’t far behind and his last attempt saw him just 0.183 seconds behind.

Worries over pace of new teams

Concerns are growing over the pace of the new F1 teams with some believing that Lotus, Virgin and HRT could end up being little more than moving chicanes.

Ecclestone not sure Schumacher can win

Intermediate Tyre Concerns?

After a wet test session at Jerez, teams have been expressing their concern over the Bridgestone’s new intermediate tyre compound, revealing that the tyre appears to wear out too quickly.

“At the end of ten laps, it felt like I was driving on slicks in the rain,” Kamui Kobayashi commented.

FIA clarifies skipping races issue

The FIA has clarified the recent revelation by Bernie Ecclestone and Jean Todt that teams will be able to miss up to three Grand Prixs without penalty. The FIA has said that any team absent from a race weekend will be in breach of contract and therefore could face punishment.
