Hamilton: Alonso showed me how not to behave

Despite leading the standings for most of the 2007 season, Hamilton narrowly missed out on the title by a single point to Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. Following his near miss, Hamilton believes that he has the package he needs to win the championship this year.

Hamilton caught speeding

Lewis Hamilton has been caught speeding in France. The British Formula One driver was reportedly caught at 196 km/h (122 mph) in his Mercedes last weekend near the northern town of Laon.

Hamilton moves to Switzerland

Lewis Hamilton has decided to leave Britain in light of the excessive public and media attention he has received in the UK over the past year.

Hamilton will be moving to Switzerland and joins a whole host of other Formula 1 drivers including current team-mate Fernando Alonso and current world champion Kimi Raikkonen, along with seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton’s retirement - where should the blame lie?

Ron Dennis has said no-one is to blame for the retirement of Lewis Hamilton from the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend. Hamilton was on-course for a race win however with doubts over the weather, he stayed out on his original wet tyres which started to wear very badly. After an extended period of time, Hamilton came into the pit-lane however his tyres were so worn that he went straight off into a gravel trap and was unable to get back on the tarmac, even with the help of marshals.

Victory by 0.070 seconds?

‘In chaos, there is opportunity,’ goes the saying and no where was this better demonstrated than in Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton was the man to keep his cool while torrential weather conditions, whipped up by Mount Fuji, wrecked havoc with those around him, most notably Fernando Alonso who aquaplaned off the track on lap 42 gifting Hamilton a 12 point championship lead. The weekend will no doubt be remembered for Sunday’s chaotic race and the way it rocked the drivers championship. But in my view it was qualifying that marked the real turning point, not least because it revealed yet another shift in balance between Alonso and Hamilton.

Given the intensity of the drama off the track over the past fortnight you’d be forgiven for feeling a bit deflated after witnessing the action on it. The Italian and Belgian Grand Prix just about captured the interest of the sport’s regular viewers but would have no doubt done little to satisfy the needs of new followers lured in by the intrigue of Mclarengate.
