BMW Sauber have confirmed that they are retaining both Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica for the 2009 season, with Christian Klien staying as their test driver.

“We see Nick and Robert as a strong driver pairing and Christian as an experienced test driver,” Mario Theissen explained. “We are in no doubt that we will again achieve our ambitious aims with them in the team’s fourth year.”

The BMW Sauber F1 team have announced that they will be restructuring their technical department over the coming months with current technical director Willy Rampf moving to his new role of technical co-ordinator in November.

BMW have become the fourth Formula One team to unveil their 2008 car. BMW have launched their F1.08 in Munich, Germany, and are hoping that their new F1 car will help them improve on last year’s results which saw them finish second overall. BMW were the surprise of the 2007 season and after the McLaren team were disqualified, BMW found themselves finishing behind Ferrari in the standings.

BMW are hoping that their new car will help them towards their first ever Formula 1 race win. Following the disqualification of McLaren from the 2007 constructors’ championship, BMW finished in second place behind Ferrari. This positive result has given the team a boost and they are hoping that 2008 will see them take a race win.

Mario Theissen, motorsport boss of BMW Sauber, has revealed his team are hoping to close the gap to Ferrari and McLaren and take their first ever Formula One victory in 2008.

BMW Sauber have announced that Christoph Zimmermann has been appointed chief designer for the team after their previous chief designer, Jorg Zander, left to go to Honda earlie this year.

BMW Sauber have been on the look-out for a new chief designer for several months. Eventually, they decided to promote one of their senior Sauber engineers instead of finding a new person to join the team.

BMW Sauber have confirmed that they will be launching their 2008 Formula 1 car in mid- January 2008.

The F1.08 is currently in the design phase at their Hinwil base and the team have confirmed they will reveal the new car on 14th and 15th of January, although the location of the launch has yet to be confirmed.

BMW had another good showing over the weekend with Heidfeld managing his fifth fourth place of the season, and Kubica finishing in fifth. BMW Sauber are now odds on to finish third in the Constructors’ Championship as they are now 48 points ahead of fourth-placed Renault.

BMW Sauber have announced that there will be no driver changes for the 2008 season. The announcement means Nick Heidfeld will spend a third season with the team, and will be Polish driver Robert Kubica’s second full season with them.
