Toyota back Glock

GPTRFP-SN006-08-LowResTimo Glock has been given a vote of confidence from Toyota after a nightmare start to his first full season in Formula One.

The reigning GP2 champion has failed to score a single point this year and has only once qualified in the top-ten. The German has also been involved in several collisions with other drivers and prior to Turkey had only one incident-free race to his name.

Toyota’s two year ’success’ deadline refuted

Toyota’s 2008 F1 car, the TF108John Howett, team president of Toyota, has denied rumours that Toyota have just two years to succeed in F1. The rumours began when team boss Tadashi Yamashina stated, “I have been given two more years,” when discussing the performance of the team earlier this month.

Yamashina: 2010 deadline for Toyota

Having had a poor 2007 season which saw no podium finishes for either Ralf Schumacher or Jarno Trulli, Toyota’s team boss Tadashi Yamashina has been given until 2010 to turn the fortunes of the team around.

Toyota announce date for TF108 unveiling

Toyota have announced that their 2008 F1 car, the TF108, will be unveiled on January 10th 2008 at their factory in Cologne.

2007 was a disappointing year with the team finishing sixth in the standings. Since becoming a constructor in 2002, the Japanese team have yet to win a Grand Prix and are hoping that 2008 will be a better season all round.

Current GP2 Champion Timo Glock has left BMW and will be racing for the Toyota team next season.

Toyota announce Montagny’s replacement

Toyota have confirmed that Kamui Kobayashi will take over testing duties from Franck Montagny. The Frenchman has left the team – and F1 – in order to pursue other challenges.

Toyota aims for the top

Toyota have promised that their 2008 car  - the TF108 – will be very different to 2007’s car and it is hoped that it will propel them to amongst Formula 1’s front runners.

Dernie joins Toyota

Toyota have appointed a new senior advisor in the form of old F1 hand, Frank Dernie. Dernie left the Williams team earlier this year having spend four years as a specials project engineer. Previous to Williams, he had also worked at Lotus, Benetton, Arrows and Lola.

Schumacher’s birthday wish

Ralf Schumacher turns 32 on Saturday and has said the best present would be if he qualified strongly at Magny-Cours. Schumacher has had a torrid time so far this season with his best results beng eighth place at Australia and Canada. Thanks to his poor performance, he has also had to endure rumours that Toyota may not want him as a driver for much longer. In America, Schumacher did nothing to improve his reputation, ending his race in the first corner, whilst his team mate Jarno Trulli went on to finish in sixth.

Toyota redesign suspension

Toyota F1 CarToyota have redesigned their front suspension after it caused them several problems at Montreal. Jarno Trulli suffered two identical suspension failures during the weekend, forcing his pit crew to make some setup compromises during the race.
