Jerez testing line-ups revealed

Teams have announced their driver line-ups for this week’s pre-season test, in Jerez.

Eleven of the thirteen entrants for this season’s world championship are scheduled to take part in the four-day event, with Lotus expected to debut their new T127 for the first time.

Schumacher now expects to fight for the title

Michael Schumacher believes that he will be able to fight for this year’s world championship, after declaring himself happy with the progress that Mercedes has made with the new W01.

However, the seven-times champion does admit that it is impossible to compare the competitiveness with the new Mercedes with last season’s all-conquering Brawn GP 001.

Jerez set for another washout

Formula One’s third pre-season test looks set to  be disrupted by the weather once more, after teams failed to find another venue away from Jerez.

Last week’s four day event was hampered by heavy rain showers and this situation looks set to be replicated.

Vettel also expects big four fight in 2010

Sebastian Vettel has echoed the comments of Michael Schumacher that there will be four teams fighting for the 2010 championship.

Last week, Schumacher stated that his Mercedes team would be joined by Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari in this season’s title fight – a prediction mirrored by his German counterpart, Vettel.

Lotus aim for steady progress

The new Lotus F1 team, who revealed their 2010 car in an official launch this weekend, have said they are aiming for steady progress towards the sharp end of the grid. Team boss and Air Asia magnate Tony Fernandes said that finishing races would be the first year’s target but that in time the team would compete with the best.

Established top four still top, says Schumacher

Michael Schumacher has moved to give some indication of what the 2010 form is today by saying that he believes the established top four of Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull and his Mercedes team are out in front.

New teams in serious danger of being counted out

As the rubber is burned and the (who knows how much) fuel is pumped into the new 160kg tanks at Jerez this week, the teams ready themselves for the 2010 season. New boys Virgin are there, despite a front wing which has a disturbing tendency to fall off; Force India are there, despite rumours of financial difficulties. There are two notable absentees, both of whom have entries for the 2010 season – USF1, and Campos Meta 1.

Alguersuari takes Toro Rosso to top at lunch

Jaime Alguersuari topped the timesheets today at Jerez at lunchtime in his Toro Rosso. The Catalan was followed by Pedro de la Rosa in the Sauber and Adrian Sutil in his new Force India, in a session dogged by rain and red flags.
