Out-of-form defending world champion Kimi Raikkonen may have won the support of Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo and F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, but the bookies, it would seem, are less than convinced that a change in form is imminent.

The image of Formula One’s elite squatting outside a motorhome, whiling away the last hours of daylight over a deck of cards seems almost out of sorts with the glitzy celebrity-driven milieu of the paddock.

Formula One can be an unpredictable sport, as was perfectly demonstrated by last weekend’s race in Monaco. Two safety car periods, three different drivers leading the grand prix, four different tyre compounds used and the eventual victor having hit the wall early on in the race.
